Re: My Swift Canoe

Thanks, Jacques. I think a "kiekendief" is called a Harrier in English. I am living in a National Park in the Netherlands where this bird of prey is quite common. The SC16 is a perfect boat for me. With a 5 hp outboard it's really fast (almost hits 20 kph with one person on board). I'm als...

My Swift Canoe

I've just uploaded some pictures to the galleries of the Swift Canoe (SC16) I finished last year . This is the fourth bateau boat I've built. Before I built a Nice Canoe (NC16), Flat Skiff (FL11/12) and an Orca (SK17). Pictures of my boats serve as showcases at bateau.com (which I am still very prou...

Re: SC16 Waterline

Thanks Jacques, I'll try a waterline at 8" from the bottom and see what happens.

Re: SC16 Waterline

Thanx for your replies guys, but that didn't really answer my question. The boat will stay in the water for the season, it's to heavy to haul it out every time. In the area I live in, the hull will definitely not stay clean by itself. I thought of putting the unfinished boat in the water and marking...

SC16 Waterline

After having built a NC16, FL16 and a SK17 (and being proud to find that pictures of my boats still serve as an example on bateau.com) I have just started to build a Swift Canoe (SC16). I would like to mark the waterline on my boat, to be able to put antifouling paint on the bottom, but I can't find...

Or just use a paper towel after you clamped the rubrail to the hull to wipe off excess epoxy. As BoH says: be worried when it doesn't squeeze out...
For me paper towels must have been the "tool" I have used most.

I would recommend building an FL12, it's easy and it works great with an electric trolling motor. My battery went in the middle seat, the cables on my motor were long enough.
See my website for pictures. (Yes, it's my FL11/FL12 that serves as an example on Jacques' site...)

From my experience: PVC will stick to epoxy. You might want to sand the pvc pipe first to roughen the surface a bit. The tubing will not be a part of the basic structure of the boat, so strength of the bonding will not be a problem.
Be carefull with epoxy and thinner though.
