There may be oils. With the xylene, do I need to wash with soap and water after?

cleaning a dirty surface

I spent a little effort on trying to find this information in the forums, so I apologize ahead of time if this has been answered before. I have not worked on my C17 in 2 years, the hull has fiberglass on half, and I am about ready to start working on it again. I have moved, reorganized two garages, ...

Tim, I made a mistake on my transom in the beginning on my C17. Except I mis-measured one corner, a nice $120 dollar mistake! I painted this on my messed up transom: http://www.pixelcan.com/boat/measure.jpg You could paint something on yours like "remember filler for ALL laminations and joints&...

Like a 2x2 at and between each station? Don't mind a little overkill in the favor of safety. That sounds like a plan. I'll try to get the cloth on the other half so at least weights and stresses will be balanced.

LOL, I remember reading that. I won't cut my boat in half, that only happens in my worse nightmares. Are you saying it (moving) has the potential to damage the boat? If there is any such possibility I would like to know what the minimum amount of glassing I need to do to be safe. I am planning to lo...

Thanks Matt, that would be ideal, but I don't think I am going to have time to finish glassing. I have until the end of the month and I am going to be busy packing. Any other tips, suggestions?

C17 - Moving an unfinished hull

It's been 8 months since I touched my C17, I know, I'm slacking. The hull has all the outside taping done and half of the hull has cloth. The thing is, I have to move. My plan is to rent a UHaul large enough to fit the boat and recruit several sets of muscles to help load and unload, then use the tr...

Sand the fillets with about 80 grit then precoat with epoxy and let it get tacky then lay the tape then wet out with more epoxy. Your seams will be fine. Wet on wet is just easier, and will help the fillets become more smooth. I let my fillets dry first so I could sand to the desired shape (on the o...

Jason, Since it came down to either scrapping the whole project, or making do, I decided to move forward. I need to cover the outside of the transom anyway to keep the fir from checking, so I'll use biax for this, and I'll put a couple of layers of biax tape over the clamping area. Hopefuly this wil...
