NC16 Decked Sailing Canoe Splashed - pics

It Works!!! I wasn't sure it would sail very well, but I'm very pleased with it's performance. This is the Vardar Wasp, a canoe I built this past April. After taking the river trip it was built for and then putting it in a couple of lakes, I decided that paddling was way too much work for me. I star...

Here's the seat. Built for comfort, not for looks... The bottom has a fabric chamois type material glued to it so that sand and dirt between the seat and boat does minimal damage. I was a little off on the 16" dimension I called out in my previous post - by over 3" - OOPS! But when I was m...

I've thought about adding some smaller seat reinforcements fore and aft of the one called for in the plans. I'm pretty sure they'd make a big difference. If I do they will be smaller strips, maybe 6" - 8" wide. I'm reluctant to do it because I think it will make it less comfortable; A stri...

I'm a little miffed at the fact that the plans for the NC do not address this slight problem, as well as not having any instructions on when and how to use the two molds. Actually, the plans call out a curve for the sides of the seat... It's a smooth 5mm curve from center to edge. Look on the NC16 ...

Thanks for the price breakdown in your area Michel.

I have spent a lot of time looking at the pics of your beautiful boat. Still thinking about what model I'm going to make, but my next project will definetely be a sailboat.

Shipping to an APO

Can expoxy kits be shipped to an APO?

I know that costs aren't an issue, since you only pay U.S. post office costs for the stateside portion of shipping. I don't imagine packaging would be any different either.

Has this been done before?

Thanks Rich.

I assume some cost overruns on any project because of waste, customizing, etc. But when I start adding things up I am arriving at numbers close to double the $800 estimate. I thought maybe there was a secret boatbuilders' bazaar I was missing out on...

One more question; Are things like paint, paintbrushes, sandpaper, etc. and neccessities for sailboats like rope and cleats etc. included in the estimated cost?

C12 Building Costs

I'm looking at a C12 as my next project, but have some questions about costs. The study plans call out an estimated cost of $800 in 2002 dollars, but when I add up the costs of the kits (epoxy, sail and spar) I come up with $1045 without counting the cost of plywood. Does the $800 estimate assume so...

I have three NC's and am pleased with how they handle without a keel - of course I've only had them in rivers so far... No fjord passages yet. I was really tempted to add a keel to see what the effect would be, but have decided not to for the moment because I like the ease of transport and storage w...
