getting back to a C17 project started about 10 years ago

Some time around 2004-2005, I purchased the plans and began building the C17. The first year, I was able to finish the hull and get her flipped, but then life got in the way... job, 3 kids, etc... Long story short, I'm finally figuring out how to make time and am getting back to it. I started lurkin...

Re: C17 (Classic 17) in London

Hey Tim, Good to see you back. I'm actually back myself after finally getting a bit more free time allocated from SWMBO. I've Decided that my own C17 is going to be named "Seven Summers". It's got a nice ring to it, I just hope that it doesn't sretch out to eight summers, or even nine. I r...

Awesome report Tim. Thanks for all the detail. I'm motivated again to get working on my own C17 when the weather heats up enough here for epoxy to cure. Congrats on Crew member #1. You're in for a wild ride. One word of advice as the time draws near... Get as much done on all your various projects b...

awesome. The slower cure will really help with wetting out the woven fabric. I put a layer of 4oz fabric over my entire sole and my epoxy cured too fast. I've 2 places where the fabric bunched up and created a bubble. by the time I noticed it, the epoxy had already kicked. They are located under ben...

Did the original epoxy test finally cure properly or are you referring to the batch that was heated?

I agree with Larry. Do not shove glass in there, it will just soak up all the resin, and you're free epoxy will be gone before you know it. I had a similar issue with mine and I filled the area as best I could with thickened epoxy. It's OK, but probably wasted about 1/2 gallon of resin :( Definately...

Thanks Mike. I checked it for crystals (read that on the site I found), but didn't look for tiny crystals. It's in a 4 gallon metal can, but has a plastic pull-out spout. I'll throw it in the truck tomorow and park in the sun. It is curing just as you describe. Stays soft and a bit tacky. Will be g...

The epoxy should be fine. Age shouldn't make it go bad, unless it was stored in the Sunlight (no UV protection...). You should check the resin to make sure that it hasn't crystalized. It may not look like it, but epoxy resin can crystalize, just like honey does. The fix is the same. Heat to melt the...
