FL 14 Seats

On the seats. The forward seat if built as per plan will need some reinforcement when a 250lb boat builder tries it out by sitting on the edge. Filling the forward compartment and the rear seat compartment with foam will provide more than enough flotation for the weight of the boat. I used the mid s...

I used ext 3.8" plywood ripped down to 4' l x 1 1/2"w. I built the whole boat out of ext. I did glass the whole exterior hull. If you see my gallery you can see. I thought the boat was stiff before once I added the rub rail it was like a rock. I built the skeg as per the plans. 2 scrap pie...

I bought the pad and strap cover support unit from West Marine. $40 and then spent $15 for a heavy 12 x 16 tarp and that has done the trick. Boat stays dry on the inside and the post can elevate so snow does not build up on the tarp.

OC 17 Plans

I recently ordered the C17 plans and after further reviewing them with my wife have decided that the OC17 will be more suited to our needs. When ordering the C17 plans I neglected to remind you that you have used a number of my pictures of the F14 in the water on the board and therefore I did not as...

Mass Inspection

In Massachusetts any boat that you want to use an engine on needs to be registered. In order to be registered you need a hull number. This is different from the registration number. I called the Environmental Police and luckily they held inspections at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, MA in the parking lo...

Boat for a big guy

I am 6"4" 250lbs. My wife and I have sailed on Lasers, Sunfish, and helped crew a 12,000lb J36 to the Buzzards Bay (Massachusetts) yachting championship in 1996. The J36 changed course if I moved from side to side so stability is a judgment call. I would suggest the Cat boat for your first...

Interior ply

Eric, Thanks for enlightening me. I am checking the bank account now and also space availible to build this. I might just order the ply in one or two orders and spend the winter cutting and plan to assemble next spring. If only I had a 24' long heated garage all my problems would be solved. :P

P19 Interior plywood

I have just finished the Fl14 and am serioulsy considering the P19 as the next move. I am thinking of using the Eurolite as the interior ply for this and the meranti BS1088 for the hull and exterior. Can the precut kit be offered this way? as I assume the cost difference would be around $4 - $500.

36LB and FL14

Just splashed the FL14 with the Minnkota 36lb trolling motor and into a 7-8 mph headwind it moved the boat fine with two adults and 3 kids.
