Yes, it does help to know something about sailing  You want to avoid having the wind directly behind you, which is called running and is the slowest point of sail. Did you notice how KS and I ran zig-zagged down the course? We double our distance but triple our speed by keeping the wind at an ...

Dave: It was per gallon. I didn't talk to S3 first hand. The S3 comment was reported by another builder who posted it in the forum prior to my boat's paint job. I pretty much scoured the forum on painting issues (or all issues for that matter) as I built my boat. Looks like you're doing the same if ...

I applied four coats of System Three epoxy based primer (WR-155) on the inside of my V12 over a two day period. The first coat was done just 12 hours after applying the second of two Marine epoxy coatings on back to back evenings. This way I avoided having to sand either of the epoxy coatings. I did...

With Paul's comment, you needn't bother with FG tape on the outside just for the dagger board case. But when I chose to put 6 oz. cloth on the hull of my V12 I didn't want to pass up the opportinity to wrap it a bit up into the dagger board case instead of simply cutting the hole in the cloth. But a...

I overcame a problem of epoxy (Marine Epoxy) not curing as part of a fiberglass tape lamination along the inside chine on my V12. I did all my filleting and taping wet-on-wet, so I don't really know if the problem was in the fillet epoxy or the unthickened epoxy applied to it with the tape. Nor do I...

And no matter how you apply it, don't overlook the need to THOROUGHLY stir the high build primer. Stirring the sediment from the bottom of the can prior to application is harder than dredging New York Harbor. It takes quite a bit of time even using a paddle stirer on a power drill. If you don't comp...

Here's my account of spraying using the Wagner HVLP like gk108 used. http://forums.bateau2.com/viewtopic.php?t=8331&start=0 I found it productive, easy and convenient for all except the clear gloss coats that I rolled and tipped. The high build primer had some orange peel, but that was fine with...

Any thoughts on rolling and tipping clear or is that best sprayed never tried to clear coat anything. :?: I used the S3 primer, top coat, and clear gloss. I sprayed the primer and top coats successfully, and I thought very productively and conveniently using an inexpensive HVLP sprayer. But for the...

I learned from another V12 builder that if you stitch the two bottom pieces together BEFORE stitching the bottom pieces to the side pieces, when you unfold the bottom pieces they naturally develop the pronounced curve at the bow.
