Re: VG23 deck question

It is a complicated change. You can add a few inches to everything, frames and sides then shape the deck to bend over that framing, fit it between the sides and may be, install it in 3 pieces or cut slits. As designed, at the cockpit bulkhead, the deck edge meets the side edge but close to the bow, ...

Re: HM19 10hp cruising speed?

Not with a 10 HP.
You"ll need at least 50 HP to get her on plane. I heard reports of her planing with a 30 but that is not confirmed.

BTW, those two very different boats.

Re: C17 - questions pre-build

About the self bailing cockpit: it is matter of boat size. In a small boat, you must compromise or select a larger boat. If you want a self bailing cockpit, you must raise the sole as you describe but, while doing that, you also raise the CG and make the cockpit shallower which is less safe. You sho...

Re: C17 - questions pre-build

Here is the bow mold. Sorry, I only have the imperial one but it is easy to translate. Click on the link and/or download. https://www.community.boatbuildercentral.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=75561 It fits only one way, against the first mold. It does not have to be accurate. I like to shave abo...

From the designer, replies between the quotes: Hi all I have purchased the plans for the C17, Some preliminary questions after studying the plans, for BBC or anyone with knowledge of the boat : - Bow mold: I only have the full size pdf in the plans (and cannot print full size), could BBC or anyone p...

Re: Boat Project II

Would it be possible to get freeboard, chine width, and frame locations (I recall having seen the frame locations on the forum already ... somewhere) for the MG20? It remains the 1st option as it should also provide the sought seakeeping qualities and modifications would be limited to deck, sole, a...

Re: Boat Project II

I did not see this thread but will read it and reply in detail if needed. In the mean time, here are some figures and rules of thumb. Any or almost any of my designs can be scaled up or down by 10%. They can be scaled more but in that case, will require some design changes like extra framing, scantl...

Re: „FS14, GV 10 &11 Questions” for Jacques

Plane is about getting on plane. For a boat, it means the transition between turbulent and laminar flow. Once you get in laminar flow (on plane), you go faster expending less energy. I assume that google translation gets us confused. To the question: the GF12 would be a good choice to plane with a 1...

Re: „FS14, GV 10 &11 Questions” for Jacques

Sorry but I can't design a hull that will go at that speed with a 8 HP.

The FS12 has been tested with a 8 HP and one person onboard and the max. speed was less than 15 mph.
With 2 persons, it will not get on plane.
The GV10 and 11 are good little boats but will not plane with 2 persons and a 8 HP.

Re: TX18 centre of gravity

A little bit behind the console is correct, it put its at 18" behind C but the TX18 is not a classic planing hull. In a standard planing hull, I will put the CG between 40 and 45% of the DWL, forward of the transom. Closer to the transom for fast hulls, further forward for moderate planing spee...
