I’m staying with the 900lb (actualy around 970), 300lb more than the standard BOM – 2 people. 500lb for wood, 200lb resin, 80lb engine, 50lb batteries, 25lb mast, 120 rigging, and then there is the pumps, anchor, baix cloth, ballast and carry on goods and people. The weight of wood is around 300...

Have you kept record of the weight built into your mods? You esytimate 320 pounds, I say you’re dreaming. The boat will be around 900 pounds and then you will add people and be up around 1300-1400 pounds. If you followed the standard plan the BOM with Douglas fir it will be around 260-300 pounds f...

Goodbye (for now).

Fellow builders, I am moving to another project and will not be reviewing the board as often, but I will keep a look out for new plans. I have a soft spot for a displacement cruiser and this will likely bring me back after the new project is finished. Thanks to JM and all who have helped me along th...

Thanks Gents, I’ll stay with epoxy. Shrinkage always leaves a bad impression. In hindsight the question didn’t need asking. Best guess I’ll likely spend a couple of weeks molding the parts and then probably a few months to create a body from the mold, so what’s a few bucks more for a better product....

I have used my left over epoxy resin and fiberglass from my FL14 for things other than boats; Fixed some checking in timber steps and added a thin self leveling slurry; Also patched some rust holes in a car and then bogg...

Aluminium oxide and I used 80grit exclusively. As mentioned, buy in bulk packs - 25/50 sheet packs. If you have an air compressor use a blow gun to clear the surface of the paper and you will get a lot more mileage out of it.Scott
