Re: Fiberglassing vs epoxy only on plywood
No such thing as a dumb question, checking is when a slight (sometimes bigger) crack(s) appears in the finish due to the drying out of the wood underneath. Even thought plywood is "stable", hot sun and extreme temps for an extended period can cause the surface ply to react and then you ha...

Wow, what an amazing, epic project! I have to say I was getting the pre-build jitters on my FS17 but, after seeing this project...

Re: FS 17
I have a question on this topic - how do you "bolt" seats, console etc to the sole of the boat when you can't get underneath the sole to tighten the nuts? Do you use some kind of special bot like a toggle bolt, or do you have to cut holes in the sole to access the nuts?

FS17 - first dumb question
Just studying the plans getting ready to lay out and cut some parts. I can't find any dimensions for the transom clamping board inserts. The notes say to use the transom as a template. However, it is clear that the inserts are not the same size as the full transom (i.e., the inserts do not go all th...

Re: Baitcaster's FS17 Build Thread (Oct. 5, 2011)
In case you are ever going to consider a PH18, I have a deck mold that will be freed up in the next couple weeks. Oddly enough the mold took at least 250 hours and the part (deck) I am pulling will take a day to lay up and a second for the core/underside fabric.... Hmmm, I don't think I could fit t...

Re: Mark's PH18 in Toronto
If I want something quick and closer to home (I live in Markham) I go to Noah's. For the bulk of the expense though like the 20 some sheets of H80, transom board and epoxy, I went through Jason at Composites Canada. My wife work's for one of their suppliers so it helped me get a good discount. I'll...
