Re: GV10 - Fast Garvey 10 - Waiting to fish in Salt Lake
Yeah I had considered that too. I stopped at 2 filler coats. The last coat went on late Saturday and we didn't have a particularly hot day as it was overcast most of the day. That last coat went on pretty thick, without any runs, and the weave is pretty close to being completely filled at this point...

Re: GV10 - Fast Garvey 10 - Waiting to fish in Salt Lake
Filler coats are going on with neat epoxy. This stuff is going on thin. But that's not such an issue actually. I bought the west systems rollers and these coats are going on fast. So a lot of quick, thin coats to fill the weave, then one last coat. Then fairing begins . . . You're not going to win a...

Re: GV10 - Fast Garvey 10 - Waiting to fish in Salt Lake
So the epoxy showed up on tuesday and the fiberglass showed up on wednesday - July 3rd. By 4am July 4th, I had the outside hull completely laminated. While that sounds a little eager maybe, it was actually a good time to get the work done. I had the next day off and, to quote another build thread, i...

Re: GV10 - Fast Garvey 10 - Waiting to fish in Salt Lake
Hmm I already ordered 10 yards of the 10oz (or 9.4 oz) woven. I think I'll be ok. If I have enough maybe I'll cut it on the bias for the interior. I'll have to cut it up for that anyway. The stuff I ordered is 60 inches wide. Thanks so much for keeping tabs on my build thread, Evan. This is such an ...

Re: GV10 - Fast Garvey 10 - Waiting to fish in Salt Lake
Ok outside seams are taped. I am now out of epoxy and I need to order more. So one gallon got me this far, plus a few test laminates - not bad for a noob. According to the plan I have 2 gallons remaining for fill coats and a little filleting for the bow frame and d eck. I should be within range. So ...

Re: GV10 - Fast Garvey 10 - Waiting to fish in Salt Lake
Ok the outside seams are filled in and sanded. I achieved a decent radius with an ro sander and a 60 grit pad. Here are some shots of the radius: http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/87512/20130623_204248.jpg http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/87512/20130623_204257.jpg Tomorrow night t...

Re: Wade's GV10
That's good info, Wade. It would definitely have helped had I not done the inside first. Your method starting with your filleting and taping the outside first, seems to have been optimally efficient - something that obviously comes with experience. For me starting with the inside seams first made mo...

Re: GV10 - Fast Garvey 10 - Waiting to fish in Salt Lake
Progress has been slow but steady as full summer has kicked in. I have the inside seams fillted and taped. There is going to some sanding required before I sheath it fiberglass. =D http://gallery.bateau2.com/albums/userpics/87512/IMG_0210.JPG I went ahead and taped in the frames. I got feedback from...

Re: Gv10 fillete and grassing inside - tape the frames?
Two more questions, Evan when you get a chance. Do I buy 45/45 or 0/90 biax for this? It seems 45/45 biax is better in this application, correct? My thinking is in 0/90, the warp fibers aren't really doing much in a longitudinal layup - i.e. a "warp seam", but when laying 45/45 double biax...

Re: Gv10 fillete and glassing inside - tape the frames?
Thanks, Evan I haven't purchased the fabric for the entire hull yet, but I did plan on 6 oz woven inside and out. I'll upgrade to knitted biax for that. Funny thing, I had already cut out the 4 inch tape for the frames on both sides so I went ahead and glassed them in anyway. I figure it cant hurt. ...
