Got the keel together to test how the forward portion of it will fit - plans call for 3" pvc pipe on the leading edge. I'll unstitch and epoxy seal the inside surfaces before putting it back together and starting to do the inner joins. Plans also call for 500kg (~1100 lbs) of lead ballast. I'l...

Hi Mick I've built one of these fantastic boats if I can help I will don't worry about these details at this stage just build the hull and unless your are going to buy a brand new mast and sails start looking for them now and also the ballast 500kg of lead was not easy to find here in the uk . The mast step on the boat is at an incline which causes the mast to lean forward when it is square on the aluminium plate that is bolted to the mast step. Starting at the front of the keel I made a wood plug from plywood then made a concrete mould from it then cast one big ingot that worked well,it weighed 110kg. The other ingots I cast in baking trays which weighed between 10 and 15kg. After launching the boat I had to move some of these aft because ...
