Re: Bait Tank?

https://flic.kr/p/VRUHo3 Here's links to 2 video's and a picture of a modified closed system recirculating tank running. This is a 40 gal 20+ yr old SBT II and it operates with 48 gallons of water in it. The tank doesn't resemble the stock version at all, it has been completely gutted and reworked. ...

Re: Bait Tank?

No Jim everyone here calls them bait wells and the size depends on the size of the bait they are going to use. I know of people that use overflow tanks that go out for cobia, and larger fish with there over flow tanks without a problem. My OD18 has a 15 gallon bait tank and the man I bought it from...

Re: Bait Tank?

Jim to me there is a difference between a bait tank and a live well. Bait tanks need to be designed for smaller bait fish that swim in a circular motion and must be able to filter there scales and other excrements. A live well must be designed for larger fish that can swim in one direction and with...

Re: Bait Tank?

Jim, My wife and I are headed up to Hayward, WI in a couple of weeks for our annual summer trip to the family cabin on Lac Courte Oreilles. Been following along with this discussion, because I've decided to add a livewell and baitwell to the FS 19 I'm building for my brother. I've got to figure out...

Re: Bait Tank?

I have thousands of hours behind the wheel using both open and closed systems in freshwater and saltwater and here are my honest thoughts on both. Advantages of an open system: Easy to operate No need to worry about fish waste, gases, etc... No effort towards maintenance Can be sized to weigh less f...

Re: Bait Tank?

Capeman, I'm starting to think that we are taking about two entirely different things. I'm definitely not referring to a bass style livewell, but a proper circular flowing filtered bait tank. A Livewell Systems SBT II would be a very basic commercial example of what type of tank I am referring to. H...

Re: Bait Tank?

Okay. I just want to hijack a little bit. I want a livewell in my boat and a bait tank. I used herring on the west coast (frozen), and probably could have caught live bait as well. Can the livewell and the bait tank be the same tank? Does anyone have any advice for how to do it? I plan to put the l...

Re: Bait Tank?

In the small tank above foam can be a nuisance, but not really a problem per se. Silicone, coffee creamer, potato chips are all good ways to cure excessive foaming while increasing gas transfer at the waters surface. The real problem small tanks suffer from is removing the deadly respiration gases t...

Re: Bait Tank?

http://www.danncollc.com/venturi.htm The venturi above is stellar for recirculating, heck I would have one inline on an open flow tank too. The lb-5 or lv-5 would be great with a small pump. I can't stress enough using an ammonia blocker like Seachem's Safe and in the design try to address the top o...

Re: Bait Tank?

If I can help reach out. Your bait selection is pretty hardy. There's so much baloney information on how you have to keep bait, pump sizes, how many gallons per hour you have to turn over, etc... design trump's horsepower IMO.
