Re: Dykem blue for guide coat?

A fried of mine, and someone that I consider one of the best custom boat builders alive (builder of custom North Carolina sportfishing boats), uses regular food coloring mixed into denatured alcohol. Soak a rag & wipe it over the hull. It dries VERY fast. I'm not sure of the cost of Dykem, but f...

Re: PC20 questions

Nice pic of the local traditional work boats. I'm just a bit south of you. This boat belongs to a friend of mine...it was built by another friend of mine (who recently passed...God rest his soul)...it was built the year I was born, 1973...still a beauty... https://scontent-atl3-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1....

Re: SOBX Little Big Boat GV15

I only used the filling board a couple of times and wouldn't have gotten it if I hadn't had a bigger build planed for the future (PG25C). When you're ready to think about that new, bigger boat build, contact me & I can put you in contact with someone who cuts one heck of a jig for an awesome Ca...

Re: panga 22

That has definitely not been my experience. My wife and I have paddled boats with kevlar bottoms on whitewater for years, smashed them on rocks, repaired them with minimal skills and never noticed any effects of water absorption, possibly be cause we never looked. I'm probably the least qualified t...

Aramid should be burried deep in the laminate of wood boats. It is incredibly hygroscopic, and if any of it gets abraded or otherwise exposed to water, it will soak it up like a sponge.

Re: Benny & Brent xf20 build

That Carolina style boat with the triple outboard is one fine looking boat, it will be haunting my dreams. It is sexy. The only time I saw it finished was passing it on the highway one day when it was on a semi trailer. It was headed to whichever port it shipped out of...Charleston, Savanah, or som...
