Starting a Second Build Soon

Hi everyone, I haven't been on the forums in a few years, but I've gotten a lot of time on the water in the FL12 that I built. I decided it was time to start another boat, and get rid of the FL12, it's too small for me and my aspirations have grown a bit. Looking for some advice on which model to bu...

Re: 1964 Seaswirl Restoration

No opening or hatch of any kind. So it's just there in case the rest of the boat floods?

Re: 1964 Seaswirl Restoration

On another note, after removing the splash well and taking a closer inspection, I really don't think I'm going to need to remove the top deck of this boat at all. It's 100% glass, totally structurally sound (I'll still run another strip of tape along the inside edge just to beef it up some more) but...

Re: 1964 Seaswirl Restoration

Did a little bit of work today, not too much. Finished removing the last of the deck except in the covered portion of the bow, thats actually going to be a real pain the ass because they built in a foot-rest / raised box in that section. Do I need to rebuild that? Is there a structural reason why th...

Re: Sintes 21 Rebuild

Imgur is a pretty solid image hosting site.

I went to elementary school in Alaska. I've seen a lot of bears. I live in Washington now, and when I go hunting or hiking I pack bear-spray in addition to carrying a larger caliber pistol if I can.

Re: 1964 Seaswirl Restoration

I did pickup a shop vac actually, pretty small deal but it seems to do the trick so far. I have decided to do the stringers one at a time, I don't trust the fiberglass shell without any stringers in it, rotten as they may be. Currently the stringers appear to be some kind of 2x4 that has been ripped...

Re: 1964 Seaswirl Restoration

The SOB tool is making nice work of removing the fiberglass edge all the way around the deck, it's almost completely out. Also got the transom exposed, completely rotten to about 75% down from the top. I am really glad I didn't decide to take my family out on it before starting the work! I did the b...

Re: 1964 Seaswirl Restoration

How thick is the glass tabbing on those stringers? The thinner it is the better for you at this point. It's hard to see, there isn't much glass at all, some big globs of epoxy though that obviously was used to connect the deck to the stringers, but they've all delaminated. I don't think getting the...

Re: 1964 Seaswirl Restoration

Thanks for the suggestions all, I think I'll get an angle grinder and an agressive grit flap wheel, and possibly a reciprocating saw if I can find a decent deal on one. I know you like to see the guts, I was able to get out most of the deck and the splash well this morning. Big surprise, a TON of wa...

Re: 1964 Seaswirl Restoration

In for a penny, in for a dime! Take it all out and put in new stringers and deck. You will NOT regret it. Are the stringers taped in or just glued to the hull? I foresee a grinder in your tool kit... 8) There seems to have been an attempt at some small glass tabs running alongside them, but not muc...
