Re: South Georgia FS19

I sometimes(not infrequently) get spots like that in my glass. Typically when I change angles they disappear, so I chalk it up to a trick of light bending through the resin and glass. I ignore them.

Re: Hardener viscosities

I’ve used it(slow) as long as it hit 65 or so during the day. But it does seem to be a good bit more viscous when it’s cooler. I’m hoping to have the cabin “dried in” before it gets routinely below 60 for the day, so I can have a little heat in there to make sure it fully cures in reasonable time. S...

Hardener viscosities

Are the mixed viscosities any different depending on which hardener you use? Being in the Deep South, I’ve only ever used slow(specifically MarinEpoxy). However, hoping to work a little further into cool weather this year so will likely need some faster epoxy for the temps. Between hardener speed an...

Re: Shanty boat build - self design BBC materials

Still progressing, albeit slowly.

Finally got my first bulkhead glassed in today. Building outside and rain in the forecast, so will be next week before I can get the next one in.

Hoping to have her “dried in” by the time it gets cool so I can finish for a spring/summer 2025 launch.

Same here. Could be wrong, but that doesn’t look like air bubbles to me either.

Re: Complete Novice Building a Sailing D5 in Texas

If you can make them smooth through grinding and filling, you can still epoxy and glass, but you need smooth enough that you don’t have air bubbles. Glad to see you back. I was wondering where you’d gone. Don’t give up. It’s a slow boat, so pretty forgiving of technique. Learn stuff and put the boat...

Fast(slow) glue cure opinions

I have some arches to glue to bulkheads this weekend. I have one jig and four arches to glue. I have slow Marinepoxy. Temps will be 90F and days will be sunny. The arches will be under stress and held in place with clamps. Usually I would wait 24 hours to remove clamps, but I wonder at those temps i...

Re: Fuel cell placement and options?

Not trying to be a jerk, but is there some reason we’re calling this a “fuel cell” and not a gas tank? Wondering if I’m missing something. :)

Re: AB 23

I wish we had a “where are members?” map like I’ve seen on other forums. Would be great to look up nearby builders and connect for advice/help locally.

And, for what it’s worth, I’m in Gainesville, GA about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta.
