Re: Wood Rubrail Questions
Thanks guys! So I found a local distributer for Ipe, http://premiumbraziliandecking.com/ I talked to one of the people there and asked for a couple quotes. One of the quotes was inspired by what Cracker Larry just wrote. I'm getting one quote for 100% ipe and another for Honduran mahogany for the co...

Re: Wood Rubrail Questions
I was looking through CrackerLarry's FS-18 build and noticed that he simply used 1/4" Meranti ply for build up the rub rail for that boat. It looked really nice in the pictures but I think I'll be rounding off the edges a bit more than he did. I'm still curious though. Anyone got thoughts on th...

Re: Wood Rubrail Questions
Thanks for the compliments and comments fellas. I got in contact with a couple local "High End" dealers. Hopefully they'll be emailing me back soon. I really like the way that walnut looks tcason. wadestep, I think your comment about varnish vs oil is a good one. I might do that. I would l...

Re: New System Three Yacht Primer
I started using this system three primer about a month ago. I have to say this stuff is awesome. It mixes very well. It's SUPER easy to tell when the two parts are FULLY mixed. It goes on really well. It's a really hard surface when it has fully cured too. It's got great working time too. I don't ha...

Meranti ply
Hello, I was checking the site for 4mm Meranti ply and noticed that it is no longer listed in your price pull down order form. Are you guys out of it or is it no longer available? I need to source some 4mm in the next up coming month. I see you have the Okume but 10 sheets of Okume is much more pric...

Re: Rendering Program?
I have used Freeship a good bit. I think it is a good program fo basic design. Rhino 3D is a much better one although it ain't free. I've used a combo of both actually. This is something I worked on a while ago but never finished: http://img37.imagefra.me/img/img37/2/4/4/yohan1973/f_137xvl05d5qm_b0d...

Re: Swift Canoe 16 - finally
Nice work Jim! I've seen some cedar strip canoes with their transoms built that way. Seems like a pretty cool way to lighten it up. Question; some time ago you posted that you were considering building a scaled down version of the FS18 instead of of the sc16. So what made you change your mind?

Re: FS18
Correct: without the sole or the stringers, you will have a folding boat! Those parts are the backbone of the boat. You can build her without the deck. So then framing the FS18 the same way that the GF16 is framed is out of the question based on those responses. Also, I guess that alternative strin...
