Re: RickW Ph18

Thanks for the input Cape Man. I was leaning towards the 90. Yes, same here with the build. I was going to build an LM18 but had this old 70 2 banger on this old aluminum bass boat, that runs well, so my brother and I decided to go with something bigger I could put it on. I moved last year and have ...

Re: RickW Ph18

I started with a 40hp yamaha and built the OD18 to use it. After 8 years I upgraded to the 70. My OD is 300lbs fat (over plan weight) without the motor.

The 70 yamaha is an amazing motor, but my advice is go for the 90 on the Phantom as it's a heavier boat and designed for performance.

Re: RickW Ph18

You have me looking at the OD study plans now. Looks a bit narrower and lighter. The recommended HP on the OD is 40 where it is 70 on the Phantom. Seems like 90 on the Phantom would be close to a 70 on the OD. Jacques has been pretty adamant in his posts the 70 is enough, and will push this hull to ...

Re: RickW Ph18

CapeMan has a Yamaha 70 on his OD-18 and loves it. I would think both hulls would run close to the same with like power. Maybe he will see this and chime in.

Re: RickW Ph18

Have been away from the build a couple months. The past month with broken ribs, finally back to where I think I can lean over and work it. Thinking a head a bit. I have an old aluminum boat with a great running Yam 70 2 stroke I was going to put on this build. We fixed up that old girl a bit and my ...

Re: Foam sandwich plans

... top or bottom of the boat unless that interface is made special with solid glass and tapers to foam. This requires some sort of jig or mold. The PH18 would easily take around 12 months to get the hull laid up in foam; something you can do in plywood in at least half the time. Foam has some advantages ...

Re: Foam sandwich plans

... simple, light weight, and affordable plans for plywood, epoxy, and fiberglass construction that allows for folks like me to make a boat. The PH18 as presented is an awesome boat, and the "no wood" crowd doesn't understand that it's all about sealed and unsealed wood, and the type ...

Re: Foam sandwich plans

... a post of yours from 2018 re: foam sandwich plans & manuals. I have a set of your PH16 plans in wood, but would very much like to explore a PH18 in a "no wood", foam core structure. Did you ever get these finished and published and I just haven't come across them yet? Thanks for ...

Re: RickW Ph18

Of course, working inside pre-glass and bulkheads means the hull should be very well supported in proper alignment. You didn’t need me to say that, but it needed to be said. :) Jbo I made sure the cradle was sturdy, I have already been inside to tape the keel, it is solid. I wouldn't stand in the b...
