Biscuit's Panga 22 build

Post by Biscuit »

Hello all, 8)

I'm not new to the site nor the forums but this is my first post. I've been trolling around for many years now. I've been reading about and watching all the fine boats come from these wonderfully designed boat plans. I know the plans are amazingly thought out because... Yes, unfortunately I have first hand experience with one of this sites competitors plans, well he probably wishes he was in competition with Bateau. Anyhow, I'm the not so proud owner of TWO thrown together boat plans from a fella in California. But I'm back now. The first boat plans I ever bought were the Classic 21 from this site and ended up building a scaled model from them, but didn't think that was the right boat for me. So I recently purchased the Panga 22 plans and they were delivered a few days ago and I'm so pumped to get started on the build. No scale model this time, I'm gonna jump in with both feet.

So the plan is as follows...
Post pictures of everything I can
post questions and comments probably more often than most want to read
Order BS1088 Meranti from BBC this afternoon when I wake up
Maybe order full epoxy/ glass kit from BBC this afternoon as well, depending on the mood of my beautiful "accountant"
Build strongback/ jig in garage on casters (like most, no room)
Use cheap throw away ply for molds or stations if the delivery of plywood takes longer than I expect/ hope
Maybe drive over to lumber supplier in New Orleans to purchase enough BS1088 for transom and bottom panel

So ladies and gentleman let the fun begin!!!

BS 1088 Meranti on it's way. I'm going to call tomorrow but how long does the shipping usually take to Mobile, Alabama?

Don't believe everything you hear

Don't know about Mobile, but it usually only takes 2-3 days to Savannah. Probably 5 days or less to Mobile.

Lol! Haven't read anything bad yet brother.

A week on shipping would be great. I have three weeks off work in about two and a half weeks. Pagosa Springs CO ski trip this year has been cancelled. So looks like the build is moving up in the schedule. Woohoo!

It was a productive night. George Killian and I did some garage organizing and started on the strongback. (obviously there's more organizing to do before the ply gets here)

NOTE: Strongback details are 22' X 37" of 2" X 8" lumber. Right now I have six 350lb locking casters but I'm gonna use eight. Not because of weight but simply for moving it so much. The driveway has some cant to it so I'm gonna shoot for overkill. Overkill will most likely be a re-occurring theme throughout the build.

As you can see from the above picture the garage is going to be pretty tight but before I started I made a high tech scale drawing to make sure everything would fit. Yes I know my high school Drafting teacher would probably not wast his time grading this and simply give me an F, but you get the idea.

What would be the concerns if I move the small post style center console, like the one pictured above, aft about two feet or so in the Panga 22?
Maybe weight distribution or ride angle?
I think that should be offset by installing the 18 to 20 gallon fuel tank and probably a 10 to 15 gallon fresh water tank, both being forward of the console.
However, I haven't taken the first Naval Architecture class and I'm making that statement based on what I would like and not facts. Please advise... :help:

Not sure but I think the panga you are building has more interior space as the Caribiana
