D5 with leeboard(s)?

Post by KlondikeBay »

I’m looking for a little boat I can dolly or car top to the water to row and sail around the local area. There’s an island with picnic areas and hiking just a mile off shore only accessible by boat—circumnavigation is about a 10 mile trip. There’s also inlets along the shore with low bridges impassable with a mast. There’s plenty to do and see!

I like the Dinghy D5. It’s the right size. The spritsail can be easily brailed and stowed. I’m hoping it can be modified by removing the midship thwart and adding a leeboard to give it a nice open hull and more rowing room.

I would very much appreciate any ideas, suggestions or tips!
