Will this core material work?
Hi everyone. Im new to the forum. I am rebuilding a Johnsen skiff. I live in western NC and am having a hard time finding material. I would buy Divinycell but the closest I can find is 8 hrs away. I will be using the foam for a core in a polyester resin sandwich. I did find a company that has rigid polyurethane high density foam in a closed cell form. Will this work? The name brand would be Trymer. Anyone with insight would be be appreciated. Thanks.

NO !!!
Trymer has a shear rating worse than xps!
Provide technical datasheet if you think I'm wrong.
Glass will fall off and it will crush.
Use as a former only for solid glass is okay.

They sell Divinycell here:

as well as other core materials. They're great to work with and will pack and ship it right to you.

Better to ask silly questions than make silly mistakes.Mountain Mike wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 9:34 am Thanks for the help guys. I will probably be asking more silly questions as a newb.
We all have had our share of silly questions on here and some of us it was AFTER silly mistakes were made.

I don't know about that brandname but I used Polyurethane foam for glassing over to make coolers and the like. Or under seats and benches for flotation purposes. It won't hurt to buy a sheet to experiment with. Nothing on the hull though, as FG2k already said.
