Long time stalker whose wanting to try his hand at boat building. This would be my first boat, but I've done other woodworking projects for years (construction, furniture, cabinets, etc). I'm leaning heavily towards either the C19 or the FS19. I'd love to start with something smaller but I want to prioritize time building something that I can use with the family sooner rather than later. I grew up fishing the flats in Padre / Port-A TX so I'm used to a very specific type of boat for that environment. NW Florida seems to offer the ability to have a more universal boat for both intercoastal fishing and gulf and am interested on thoughts of anyone who lives in the area. I'd also appreciate some suggestions based on my rank ordered requirements.
1. Fit the family (2 growing boys, wife and dog)
2. Space limited build (standard 2 car garage)...I have plenty of space to build outside but the environment is swamp and generally wet/hot
3. Versatile fisher....primary intercoastal/rivers with gulf fishing in good weather (2-4' swells max).
4. Time - busy with growing boys, work, and honey-do list. I would like to balance the above with making a quality boat but would like to be fishing and making memories sooner. I have about 12-14 hrs available on the weekends right now, but could make more time during the week. I know there a times on the study plans, but there seems to be a flattening of the time curve around 80hrs for the hull for all of the plans, and then quality and finalization seems to take another 80 to 200hrs depending on the build. With delays, the logical total time seems to be roughly a year to two for a complete build.
Thanks for any advice/help in advance. I'm sure you guys are tired of answering these same questions all of the time.
