Hey folks

Third week of November and we're still working away in the boat shop. This week I started dismantling the fiberglass rack, wrapping up the surplus glass and putting it away. That's a lil' satisfying milestone. :D Continued to do some machine work and sanding on the hand rails. The new router table is fantastic compared to my old beast. Hope you're all well. Cheers!

Hey folks

Pretty sure I'm going to paint these grab rails. The lumber I used wasn't top grade and there's a few defects that will be visible. I can fill and fair and shoot some paint on them. They'll sit in the shop till spring. The second pic is the carnage from hand sanding the rails. I could have used the RO's etc. but this was just as satisfying. Cheers!

Paint is the right move. The paint will also modify the CTE (white) and they will move less. Use epoxy primer on them, strike them white with enamel or 2 pak. 2 pak contains some nasty stuff, so avoid in indoors like death.

It doesn’t need to be 2 pak either. You could epoxy prime and sand and spray them out with Rustoleum Marine enamel. Up in Canada; it’ll last 10 years and maybe you’ll get a crack in one r two.

Easier to spray, but u can handpaint them, too. Just make sure to set them upright and maybe temp hotglue them to the table. The paint will like to run, so the trick is doing one at a time and access to both sides and painting it fine finish enough. Then you’ll need a capful of thinner in your paint tray now and then if the paint gets too thick on you. Make it dance… Paint the bottom curve first with a brush and then you may be able to roll the sides with a 4” roller.

They look great, by the way. Those minor chips outs are a nothing, except like to puddle and run paint, so fill em a bit. I’d use epoxy and cab.

Not sure if you can paint enamel inside or not this winter.

Won't be able to paint them till spring. No way I can get the work tent over 50 degs in the winter. I have some 2 pack epoxy primer and two litres of Rustoleum Marine paint. I figure that should to till the wife has to repaint them a few years down the road.

I'll likely use my HVLP to spray the primer and paint. So much quicker. Got the equipment might as well use it eh?

Thn Fallguy. Cheers mate! Rick

Name boards. I don't know what else to call them. They're a work in progress. We intend to cast the boat's name in brass or aluminum bronze. Wood is Sapele.
