Boat sank

Post by rick berrey »

A 22 foot boat sank off of Dauphin Island Al. Fri. , there was an experienced capt, his friend and the friends 7 year old son . They have found the bodies of the adults south of the island but not the child . Water is cold this time of the year and a North wind can make for rough water . They answered the phone at 3 and said they were catching a lot of shrimp and wanted to stay another hour , it was an hour to long , be safe and call it when you know it,s time to head in .

Hi Rick, did you know the captain and crew? Very sorry to hear about this. Hoping for a miracle that the youngster survived.

No . I didn't know them , I'm sure some of my extended family do . A post was shared on my Facebook , the mother was asking for people to go search for her son,s body after Coast Guard called off the search .

So sad to hear. The sea is a mighty beast. Dungeness Crab season opened a few weeks ago here in California. The opening weekend was gnarly, 10-12'+ seas. Storming. 6+ people including multiple children died in 2 separate events that weekend.

Rash of boat sinking all over. Up this way we had a 50 foot seiner ice up and roll over taking six with it. The sea is indeed a mighty mistress.
