Well after a cedar strip kayak and a stitch and glue planing hull, I'm now ready to try a SUP. Actually, my daughter would really like one.
Anyone built a stand up paddle board? Anyone know where to get plans for such a beast? I'm thinking strip built as opposed to foam core.
There are lots of plans for sale online, but some can be quite expensive and I really don't know how to choose.
Anyone know of free or cheap plans and/or how to choose which board? Most seems to give weight ranges, but they also seem to be quite large ranges.
If I was confident in my ability to select the appropriate board, I wouldn't mind paying for a decent set of plans.

Would you mind sharing the sites? This might be a fun thing for beginners (or anyone who wants a SUP they made I suppose)

Re: SUP Stand Up Paddle Board
Building a SUP (stand up paddle) board sounds like a fantastic project, especially since your daughter is interested! For a strip-built approach, there are several options. You might want to check out forums like the Wooden Boat Forum or sites like Guillemot Kayaks, which sometimes offer free or reasonably priced plans. If you're unsure how to pick the right board, focus on the weight range and the type of paddling you plan to do (calm lakes, surf, etc.). Many plans provide guidance on this. Also, consider the SUP stand up paddle width and volume—wider boards are generally more stable, which might be great if it's your daughter's first board. Good luck with your build!
