Chase Tubes
Chase Tubes
Im getting ready to install 3” chase tubes through the bulkheads. Other than location through neutral axis of the stringers, any other considerations I should be aware of? How do I secure in the holes - caulking, epoxy, buoyancy foam, nothing? What about terminating at the deck? How are you guys making these connections? I dont see a special watertight flange that can be used. Should I be concerned with buckling if secured too tightly at bulkhead locations?
Re: Chase Tubes
Not an expert, but as no one else answered, for my C17 I glued the chase tubes through bulkheads with epoxy putty, the most important is to sand the tubes to make the surface very rough and improve the bonding. For the through-deck joint which is the most critical I played it safe and built a dam around the tubes and filled it with epoxy, overkill but 100% sure no drop of water will ever get through there.

Built C17 app.php/gallery/album/262, GF14 app.php/gallery/album/263, Devlin Bella 16. Sails a 30ft Biloup 89 sailboat.

I used Black Mamba FHG as advised by Aripeka Angler and it has not failed. All my epoxy joints failed on pvc, despite rough sanding..

Re: Chase Tubes
You can glue owl poop to hot butter with black mamba and it will hold.
