I just moved the cylinder attachment on top of the engine steering bracket. I can run the jackplate down to within 1 inch of full down and cylinder still has a little bit of cleanance with the top of the transom.

This position looks about right with the anti cavitation plate pretty much level with the hull bottom. Clearance might improve when I install the 2 inch spacers between the engine and the jackplate.

Why is it such a pia to post pictures or I am just out of practice and getting old.

Isn't the problem that the jack plate is mounted too low ? It seems from the pictures that the low point is well below the transom, which may cause clearance issues ?

If the jackplate is mounted any higher then the engine cavitation plate would be above the bottom of the hull when full down.

The problem could be that I built up the transom a little bit too high when I was rebuilding that area. Earlier postings showed the piece I added which the original owner had cut out. I wanted the engine mountings to be full 2 inch thickness both top and bottom. With that cutout piece the lower holes would go thru single thickness of transom. I could take an inch off the transom top and it would be ok. That would entail a lot of extra work like removing the engine and control cables and wiring and then reglassing the top.

I may end up doing that but first will see how the 2 inch spacers work.

I could take 2 inches off the top of the transom and not interfere with the jackplate mounting. Maybe its time to bite the bullet.

What do you folks think?

I have decided to take two inches off the top of the transom.

It should not be too hard to disconnect engine wiring and control cables ( 30 min job ).

I have to be careful when cutting as the jackplate harness will still be there as I hate to take that loose.

Have the engine hoist ready to go. Now get with it. I have enough epoxy and paint to touch up the area. I will put a layer of glass tape on top.

Simplest solution is usually the best way to go.

It was a messy job to sawalll the 2-1/2 inches off the top of the transom. Sanding was the messy part.

It only took about 45 mins to take the motor off and disconnect all wiring and controls. Not that big a job..

Have put a layer of fiberglass cloth over the top and epoxy it on. Will fill the weave with some quick fair and then sand and paint. hopefully get the motor back on this afternoon.

But boy it is stinking hot outside right now.
