Hot smoked fillets are best. Whole smoked or chunk os not the same. If I could only eat one thing or a last meal; that'd be it.

Purchased in Hog Island, MI. Good call Dan! Now we're camping 3 nights on the eastern shore of Long Lake near Alpena, MI. Pushing 22,000 miles...

Cuyahuga National Park. Learned a LOT about canals, especially the Ohio Erie Canal.

6 weeks to go, and we are still talking to each other! Heading up to Lake Erie today, and then near Lake Ontario. Will see all 5 of them on the trip which has given me a new appreciation for how they helped shape north America as we know it today.
Big storm came through off the lakes yesterday and last night. Wow!

Re: Cape Man's Dory
Lake Erie is known for some dynamite perch fishing. They are commonly fished with a dropper rig. I male a dropper rig and fish a more durable bait on the bottom jig which is a 1/4" lead jig. Then about 6" high or up to 9" here in Mn, I tie a bare hook and a less durable bait.
After awhile, I may adjust the offering based on what is working.
Anyhow, if you get a chance to go; there may be launches which are relatively cheap and lake perch are delicious. I do not keep them if they have signs of yellow grub.

If you don't want to go fishing for perch, there are plenty of places in Port Clinton that have perch shacks or even as you follow the lake road to Lake Ontario that will give you a great perch sandwich or meal best thing other than a whitefish on the lakes! Grew up fishing and eating em' out of Port Clinton. Limit was 100 per person back then and so with 6 we had 600 a day limit. Back then they had a cleaning plant that cleaned for .10 a fish. After a few weeks we would have Fish Fry Benefit for the local charities. Did 3 a year raising 20-30K each time. People in Northern Ohio love perch. Perch freezes well.

Not tent camping for a while. We are living the dream. Visited the Roger Tory Peterson Institute today in Jamestown, NY. The creator of modern field guides, and a huge influence on who I am today. And, it was a "putting the finger on the map" call that took us there.
