SB18 - Information about the glass

Post by marcelo »

Hello All,

I have a question.

I misunderstood a step in the plans and I glassed the side panels of my SB18.
Jacques, please, how big is the impact on the project? :(

Greg, now I Understood where I used my resin.

Thank you for your support,

Marcelo.

Marcelo, 12oz biax weighs 1lb per yd and resin weighs roughly 10lbs per gallon, so you can figure the extra weight you have added. You will need to replace what you have used to do the inside if it calls for it inside on the bottom. It really just impacts the weight somewhat and your pocket book. :D

Hi TomW,

Thank you for your comments.

It calls for another layer of 12oz, inside.

I need to figure it out. Who can help me to see what should be done inside?

All The best.

Marcelo.

I don't think it will be a big issue Marcelo. Your looking at maybe 8 pounds of fiberglass and 4 gallons more resin than we did for the entire build so far. Thats 48 pounds. You can cut some lightning holes inside say in the bunks if your not planing to use them for sleeping. (we are not) Heck I probably weighh 48 pounds more than you so as you can see it should not be a big issue.

Hi Greg,

Good to hear that is not a huge issue, besides the extra weight. I was afraid to be forced to change other parts of the boat because that mistake.

I did not decide yet if I am going to use the inside space for the berths.

Anyway, I will consider de idea of the holes.

I do not know, the age is comming my friend and my number of pounds are growing with that... :)

All the best guys.
