Thanks LL, I did start a splashed thread, and put down my initial impressions, I have since put some miles on her and the more I use her the more impressed I am.Lucky_Louis wrote:Congrats on the successful splash Slippa! We're a growing fleet. Need more pics and your impressions.

Isn't it amazing how much time and thought it takes to "finish" rigging the boat? Took me about a month (after I thought the boat was done...) Nice work there, Slippa, thanks for the pics.

Re: OB17 Underway downunder.
Too true Ross, it took a lot longer to finish her to "ready to launch" than I had anticipated. But in the end it was all worth it. It has been a very educational and tremendously satisfying experience.
I will do it again in the near future.

Hey sideslippa, I am getting the material ready to start building an OB17 and was wondering if you could explain how you raised the shear line on your boat so that you have flat side decks. I think it looks great and your boat turned out really well. Any information would be appreciated. The Walrus

Re: OB17 Underway downunder.
Sorry for the late reply, but it is simple, just allow plenty of extra height in your panels, when you flip the boat, leave in the frames for they are, or should be perfectly aligned, set up a central string line and use a electronic spirit level and build a simple jig using scrap ply and cheap lumber attached to the frame tops inside the boat at the height you want. Then useing a straight extrusion or stick, slid it over the jig and mark off the trim line on the inside of your panels and then trim it off. The result will be a dead straight, dead level shear line. You can then use the jig to build your combing and gunnwhale decks perfect. I have just done this on another boat that I am building, works very well.
My OB17 has now over two years of very regular use, it is sometimes taking a severe pounding in rough conditions and has never given me a problem, if I built another one I would do it the same.
I have added a fully composite carbon fibre windscreen frame with overhead lights and also a rear rod holder/workbench/cabinet at the rear. I can put up photos if you are interested. All of my photos are on facebook these days...can I post from facebook? If not you can find me on facebook.
