Thanks LL, I did start a splashed thread, and put down my initial impressions, I have since put some miles on her and the more I use her the more impressed I am.

It is haveing a bow rail fitted soon and I will put a few more trinkets on it yet. I will put up some more photos soon.

Isn't it amazing how much time and thought it takes to "finish" rigging the boat? Took me about a month (after I thought the boat was done...) :D Nice work there, Slippa, thanks for the pics.

Too true Ross, it took a lot longer to finish her to "ready to launch" than I had anticipated. But in the end it was all worth it. It has been a very educational and tremendously satisfying experience.

I will do it again in the near future.

Hey sideslippa, I am getting the material ready to start building an OB17 and was wondering if you could explain how you raised the shear line on your boat so that you have flat side decks. I think it looks great and your boat turned out really well. Any information would be appreciated. The Walrus

Sorry for the late reply, but it is simple, just allow plenty of extra height in your panels, when you flip the boat, leave in the frames for they are, or should be perfectly aligned, set up a central string line and use a electronic spirit level and build a simple jig using scrap ply and cheap lumber attached to the frame tops inside the boat at the height you want. Then useing a straight extrusion or stick, slid it over the jig and mark off the trim line on the inside of your panels and then trim it off. The result will be a dead straight, dead level shear line. You can then use the jig to build your combing and gunnwhale decks perfect. I have just done this on another boat that I am building, works very well.

My OB17 has now over two years of very regular use, it is sometimes taking a severe pounding in rough conditions and has never given me a problem, if I built another one I would do it the same.

I have added a fully composite carbon fibre windscreen frame with overhead lights and also a rear rod holder/workbench/cabinet at the rear. I can put up photos if you are interested. All of my photos are on facebook these days...can I post from facebook? If not you can find me on facebook.

Best regards old friends...Slippa. Stephen Walsh. Bundaberg. Australia.

Heck yeah we want more boat porn 8) Especially if it involves carbon fiber anything.

To post from facebook, just go to the picture, and Right click the mouse. Under properties copy the Address (or URL). Then come to bateau website and paste the URL. Then it's as usual, highlight the URL and click the Img button at the top.
