That all depends on how smooth you want it to be. I cover everything with fairing compound.

I think that's a good question, for example if I'm gonna use kiwigrip and I don't fair under that will that be visible in the kiwigrip?I don't know

if your going to use paint, you will need to fill the weave with fairing compound. If your going to use Kiwigrip, it is thick enough to fill the weave so you only need to fair up to the places where you apply kiwigrip.

"need to fair up to the places where you won't apply kiwigrip" is what you mean I think?

fair "up to" meaning stop fairing where you will start the Kiwigrip. In other words, you dont have to fair a 6 oz cloth surface if its going to be coated with KG. Clear as mud, right

no, not unless the weave is very proud. With 6 oz, you cant see it, at least on my FS17 you cant see the spots I did not fair perfectly. I did make one pass with a faring slurry all over the decks and sole, but it was not faired even close to the rest of the boat.

Still plugging away...haven't got the sole on yet, but getting close. Stringers are in, 3 more frames to go and the support structure is done, then flotation foam. This has been a learning experience for sure...in economics and boat repair
After this I'm building a large carport/workshop and starting a boat from scratch!
The weather today was perfect, tomorrow more of the same so I'm hoping to make progress. Next week who knows...we have a possible storm heading this way

Re: McKee Craft sole replacement/rebuild
I have the sole in and tabbed to the inside hull with biaxial tape. Now I'm ready to put a layer of cloth on the sole, but i'm not sure if i should put the cloth over the biax tape that is on the edge of the sole or if i should butt it up against the biax? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
