Thanks gents.
We spun the wheel this morning and started heading the approximately 500 nautical miles home.
Over the past week or so the SE trade winds have given way to variable winds from the northern sector, as they do around this time every year. The trades will not return with consistency until around March next year.
Heading home at this time of year is more of a cat and mouse game than the northern trip from home. Heading north, the SE trades are consistent and there are safe and protected anchorage dotted up the coast.
Finding safe and protected anchorages when heading south is more difficult. A sudden 180-degree winds change that puts you on a rocky or coral lee shore sometime during the night are an ever-present danger.
The upside is that the southern facing anchorages that provide protection from the northerlies are usually remote, beautiful and deserted. The downside is sometimes having to weigh anchor on a lee shore in the middle of the night when all hell seems to be breaking loose.
Tonight, we're anchored in remote Billbob Bay, Shaw Island, southern Whitsundays, sheltering from light northerly winds.

Thanks cape man, Jeff, Fuzz and Tom.

The sand got yellow! How long are your days now, and how long was a downhill 50 nautical miles?

We've crossed the Noosa Bar back into the Noosa River after a wonderful fourteen-week cruise.
The only viable track back over the bar entailed taking the swell and occasional breaking waves side on while traversing the half nautical mile long gutter along the north shore beach.
The drone footage below shows the current gutter. Where we entered the gutter is best seen in the lower right-hand corner of the screen around the 2 min 10 second mark of the clip.
