Hi Guys,

I started the build of the FS14 low sheer about 5 weeks ago. I have made every mistake possible but I am enjoying it! this is my first build so I am going the cheap way on the mats. I know the boat wont last as long but I am really building this one to fish off of and learn on before building a bigger one. This design looks like it will be perfect for fishing around upper Tampa Bay and I cant wait to get it on the water... that's still a few weeks out.

I posted the pictures to my gallery but I how the heck do I post them here?!

Welcome peejay. If you look in '"questions before purchasing - announcements" you'll find "How to post pictures". Enjoy your build. :D

PeeJay;

Thanks for starting this build thread, this is a boat I am very interested in building as well. Please keep the pics coming as well as any lessons learned so I can hopefully keep learning.

So! I fixed the gap near the bow with a few layers of tape. I will do the same on the inside for strength. Finished filleting the outside and tried to smooth off the edges. I did run into a few problems... I only secured the frames to the jig on one side and the frames warped under the weight of the hull in the heat and humidity. I flipped the hull and flattened the frames. I am going to replace the frames, pull in the hull against them using ratchet straps, and glue them in place next!

LOL I was a bit confused. I just posted today.

So I could use an opinion. There is a supplier that has 17 oz biax cloth on the cheap. should I use this to cover the hull? will it make a significant difference? opinions?

Its going to add weight over something like 6 oz or 10 oz and use more epoxy.

Correct 17 oz. is too heavy plus, it will double or triple the amount of resin compared to 6 oz.
That will more than double the cost too.

I got a deal (free) when decking my OD18 of some 16 oz woven. While the deck is certainly "solid", I lost more money in the epoxy that it took to wet it out than I gained in the "deal". One reason my boat is 300 lbs heavier than Jacques' plan.
