Yep, they can be smooth and fair with no fairing compound on them. Does not happen very much so smile and take your win.
Those disks are not so good on wood but they are pure hell on glass :!: Take your time and go slow or you will have plenty of areas needing fairing compound

Those spots with the extra epoxywill blend right in when doing the fairing and sanding ,also fair the rails while your doing the side they are easy to just get out the way now while working on fairing they only took a few mins to do i just mixed grabed a pinch and just rubbed the fairing mix on the rail wit my hand filled the glass real quick and use a small 1-2inch putty knife to smooth out a few spot super easy

Been almost a month since I posted anything in here. I have been puttering around on fairing and sanding. Usually about 30-45mins every morning. Decided this weekend (with nothing really planned) to make some solid progress.

Sanded the whole boat down on Sat. Used 24 grit sandpaper on the bottom and port side. Smoothed it down nicely and got the tape edges feathered to the best of my ability. Stayed up way too late Sat night (had a casino night at work, won a display board with lottery tickets, won $51 plus 2 extra lottery tickets.....really wanted the 1.75L of Jameson though  )

Pulled the boat out today, Sun, and hosed her off. Then went over every inch with a scotch brite pad and rinsed her again. Decided it needed another round of sanding after it had dried in the sun. So sanded the bottom again, hosed it off, let it dry and then wiped the whole boat down with acetone.
Got the first round of fairing material down on the hull bottom. I'll get the runners this week. Figure I really only will need 2 layers of fairing compound on the hull bottom since I plan on rolling on 4 layers of epoxy and graphite.

While visiting with Jeff and Reid last Thursday (Aug 1st, was down in FL for work) and ordered the Alexseal paint to try. Yes, it is more expensive that some of the others but reading and watching some reviews convinced me to give it a try.

Both transoms and the starboard side of the boat are almost done. Need another layer or so on the port side and 1 more on the bottom and it will be ready for primer. Going with the system 3 primer. Found it locally, which surprised me. They carry the primer but not the epoxy

I've learned a couple of things as I've gone along. Biggest one is to just leave the rub rail for last and not try and wrap the whole boat up and over the rub rail. That and pre router any and everything before attaching it to the boat.

Awesome Jeff! Good seeing you too!
Now that I know the paint will be making it's way to me, I need to step up the build a bit more....nothing like a self imposed deadline

Been almost 3 years since I last posted in my build thread. Stopped the build due to my wife's 2nd round of breast cancer then, of course, covid hit. Now finishing the move to WV.
I bought a boat trailer in KS. Replaced both hubs, loaded up the GF16 with help from my boys and their friends and made the journey from KS to WV. Have to admit I was nervous pulling an old boat trailer but it went well.
Boat and trailer now parked in the carport at our new home. I've got some items to fix at the new house (nothing major) and plan on getting back to the build later this summer.
Can someone remind me how to post pics? Lol, it's been so long I don't recall how to go about doing that.

Thanks Gents!

Been working in WV the past 7 months. WVU put me up in an apartment. Currently in KS for the last time. Moving company currently in the house getting all our stuff packed up for the move to the new house in WV.

Loving my new job. Challenging but well worth it.
