FS14 in MN

Post by wdr99 »

I’ve asked a few questions and people have been awesome and helpful. This is the FS14 I’m building, two coats of Petit EZ prime on the hull.

In the background is my 18 foot Redwing, I’m building the FS14 as our take-camping and fishing boat. I’m also building it because I have a 20hp Honda sitting around with nothing to do.

The race is on, I’m obligated to hve this on the water by fishing opener. I started in October and it seems to be going so much faster than the Redwing.

Where in Mn, Bill?

Opener is overrated, rainy and cold here. If you get done by Memorial Day; fishing is always better, but usually a day of rain still. June is always best.

Duluth, lots of water choices.

Yeah, I'm kidding about opener, rainy amateur hour, boat ramp hell. I pretty much guarantee I won't be on the water that weekend. Really, I should have said ice-out! My wife will get out on a boat if it's 45 degrees or over.

I like that! Have a motor laying around doing nothing so the only thing to do is build a boat to put it to work

It seemed completely logical. :) I tried not very hard to sell it last summer but there were no takers, short shaft remote, by the way, and surprisingly my wife thought it made sense. I considered the GV13 very seriously but at the last minute, almost literally (like after I ordered the plywood), I went with the FS14. Some day I really want a garvey hull.

3rd coat of Seattle Gray applied. Roll and tip, good enough for me, it’ll look fine from 30 feet. Next week the hull gets flipped right side up and on to the trailer!
