C17 with larger cabin

Post by Klumpie »

I've read in a topic that Jacques gave his approval to enlarge the cabin with maximum 20 cm. So that's what I did in this picture. Only the cabin is changed one direction. The rest of the boat will be build according to the plans.

Details will come later in my building topic.

For now I'm interested in your opinion.
Goal is to make a comfortable two-person weekender with an canvas enclosed aft section.

Thanks

I'm more than halfway building mine. I'd consider moving frame C back a little above the sole. I'm leaning towards leaving the roof off my cabin, and using canvas to cover it. On day trips I can stand up front and cast. Having said that, the boat is very small for a genuine weekender.

Thanks for replying, I follow your build and learn from you,

I was also thinking of leaving (a part of) the roof off the cabin. Not quite sure how I will do it, but it will sort out on the go.
I'm planning to try some configurations on the model I will build soon. I hope the model will give me some further inspiration on making everything work.

I'm okay with the space this design offers. I have some nice ideas for build-in toilet and that kind of stuff. Simple comfort it's what I aiming for. I'm happy with a good size bed and a place to sit, my wife needs a little bit more and even her wishes are possible to create.

Klumpie you have a sound plan by moving the cabin back by 20cm is only 7in and should not upset the COG. If you want to leave the aft section roof off then cover it with canvas, there are several ways you could go, snaps, zipper, or heavy-duty Velcro.

I actually like the look of the extension over the original.

You could build a small hatch on the roof like a sailboat . The extended cabin looks good as well .
