Email Question / Nutshell Dingy

Post by Jeff »

This question arrived via email: "Would like info concerning Nutshell dingy. It was built in 2000 I believe. Builder finished basic boat but never really finished it for sailing. Some plans I have show drawings dated 1994. Boat was constructed without centerboard. Before I experiment with some ideas I have, I thought that designer might have input on how and where to install leeboards. Plans in my possession show mast, but no sailplan. This is 7’-7” dingy with bow, not the Nutshell Pram. Drawings are signed email jmg2@aol.com and bateau.com Vero Beach FL. Previous owner constructed a trial rig along lines of Optimist sailplan, but never constructed a real sail or installed leeboards. Would this dingy be better served with a different rig? Uppermost in my mind is the leeboard attachment and construction. Hopefully, you can provide pointers before I try figuring it out on my own. Builder did a nice job. Thanks." Jeff

There are many different boats named the Nutshell, it is a generic name.
My Nutshell design is not a sail boat and will never be a good sailboat. It is designed as a pure row boat.
