Laguna Madre 18'

Post by Jerid Ray »

After much deliberation, 4-5 years of lurking, reading, researching, i bit the bullet and ordered one. I did the CNC kit. SO glad I did. Man it's nice just snapping out parts and starting the build. I'm in the construction field so making precise cuts isn't difficult but its not something I want to spend a week on. The directions are.....well...vague. I feel very empathetic towards any poor bastard not in construction that has to read these. It's not very user friendly. Their customer service is nothing short of amazing so there is that.

I used to repair surfboards in Hawaii when I lived there for years. I'm very familiar with bottom contours, fiberglass, painting etc. I used to sell Pursuits, work on my own boats and have been around boats my whole life. I also work in construction from framing to cabinetry so no stranger to everything I'll need and use. Also transplanted a jet ski motor ( cut out jet ski hull and transplanted it) into an aluminum skiff once so custom rigging and engineering new stuff is a breeze. I also Stayed at a holiday inn once as well. I feel qualified

Few items I have purchased and will have on the boat.....

Bought MINT 2007 50hp Yamaha, weighs 189 lbs
(New Tohatsu 40 or 50 weighs 209lbs, 30hp weighs 157lbs)
power tilt and trim
Bought controls separate. Used
Poling platform aquired
Using Quantum paints for hull and accent
Tunnel hull
Doing the Black fly Lodge boat set up bench seat in front of console. I want black fly lodge casting platform but alas it is a flat one....I need some height so may switch that up. BURNEWIIN accessories on rail.
Micro power pole.

Ask questions early. Avoid hull hook, a common first time builder error.

Hull hook? Giving a concave bottom profile bow curve to stern? I believe I can run a straight edge around and make sure I'm flat as Bidens brain waves.

Well, fine, but if you are as crooked as trusting Putin more than our straight shooting intelligence service, you'll have a problem.

Back at you, if you want to twist and play.

Gentlemen, please refrain. Not the bilge and not the kind of thing we should really need to moderate here.

I was genuinely tryin to help the guy with a common amateur, permanent error. Now, he knows how important it is to keep it straight.

I recommend deleting the stuff, even mine.

No need to delete. Just keep it to boat stuff up here. Take the p’tics to the bilge.

Oh man. My tone must have been crap. I heard ya man! Was just clarifying what you meant and my possible solution. Wasn't flipping salt at ya. Keep it coming. This takes time and energy to post on here, two things I'm short on these days. But it's important to do this right. im doing it to get input like yours. I've been on outdoor fishing forums for 25 years, I remember dial up! I dont think I'm offendable anymore. Where my "offended" organ resides is a dark callus of gnarled wood.
