Hello,
What is the expected average cruising speed of the HM19 with the 10 hp? Will the 10hp push the boat faster than the displacement HMD19 version because of the flat bottom?
Thanks,
Bogie
HM19 10hp cruising speed?
Re: HM19 10hp cruising speed?
Not with a 10 HP.
You"ll need at least 50 HP to get her on plane. I heard reports of her planing with a 30 but that is not confirmed.
BTW, those two very different boats.

Hi Jacques! Hope you are well. I should've asked "what displacement speed will the HM19 travel at with the 10hp?" I see where it's specified for the HMD19. I have the plans for the HMD19 but I'm considering the HM19. I'd probably run it with the 10hp initially but like the option of planing with a bigger motor.

Depending on the weight on board you should probably expect 7-10mph's. Weight is always the determining factor in speed.Bogieman wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 6:59 pmHi Jacques! Hope you are well. Hi Tom! Thanks for sharing your expertise. That's exactly the answer I was hoping for.TomW1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 9:36 pmDepending on the weight on board you should probably expect 7-10mph's. 5-6 knots maximum (6-7 mph)
Not a chance at 10 mph (8.7 knots)

Evan are you doing for the HM or the HMD. They are two very different boats. I would agree with you on the HMD. Tom

In the pictures of both boats, the website seems to use the HMD pictures for both designs. Are the differences below the waterline? The description of the HM states that it does nicely at displacement speeds and a 10HP.

Yes, the HMD19 has a V hull with a rocker bottom so it'll never plane. The HM19 has a flat bottom with no rocker and will plane.

Yes, the HMD is a displacement hull and HM is a planing hull much like the OD18. The difference in draft is 12" vs. 9" for each. The study plans even compares the HM to the OD.OrangeQuest wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 5:28 pmIn the pictures of both boats, the website seems to use the HMD pictures for both designs.
