My condolences as well.
I'm proud to have built 2 of his boats. Hopefully I'll still build more.

That was a shock for me to hear, what a loss to all of us that appreciate his work and deep knowledge.
I'm very sorry to hear that he is gone, but it is good to know his work will live on for generations to come.

Re: Jaques Mertens-Goossens
Many designers work fails to continue after they are gone because many builders want assured support.
I have the td3 plans which were never released, for example.
After the dust settles for Jaques passing, it would be good to get an idea about the plans for his plans and how to support them.

Re: Jaques Mertens-Goossens
I'm so sad about this. I first met Jacques (virtually) on the rec.boats usenet group (early internet days), sometime around 1998.
I had mentioned I had designed and built a nesting 2 part dinghy (the FB11). He expressed interest in the plans, and we came to a (virtual) handshake agreement for him to resell plans and me to get royalties. That was the way we operated for over 20 years before he sold his business. Along the way we collaborated on a few other sets of plans, and the terms remained the same. Nothing on paper, just a few emails. This has continued with the new owners. Royalties from boat plans are now paying for my daughter's education at university.
He knew how to keep things simple for new builders - but his designs were pretty sophisticated and at a level higher than other designers.
He made a lot of people very happy building and enjoying his designs. My condolences to his family.

Re: Jaques Mertens-Goossens
Sorry to hear this news.
I am on my second JM design, having built his FS14 for my wife as a present, and now building the GT23.
Maybe it is fair to say that he will live on through his designs, and the pleasure they bring.

Re: Jaques Mertens-Goossens
What sad news and please accept my condolences.
I’ve been between projects and have just started thinking about what I might build next and that is what prompted me to check in to the forum today to do some research and maybe post my thoughts on what I’m thinking about building.
So sorry to hear of Jacques’ passing.
