I have been following the build of this HH44 catamaran. They are going with a hybrid diesel electric motor. They have 4200 watts of solar generation although it is a much larger boat.

There is also another catamaran being built with a diesel/electric drive. Here is an explanation of the system and test sail.

A benefit of the catamarans is the ability to generate electricity while sailing through regenerative generation using propeller.

Based on my own reading, this is also something common on monohull sail as well. Often they have regenerative, controllable pitch props so as to eliminate drag under sail when regeneration isn't needed.
Cats have a lot of potential surface area, for lots and lots of solar kilowatts, which I'm kind of lustful of but for my intended use I think the hull I'm planning to use is the best fit.

Thanks for confirming. I'm ok with the max width as designed, since it fits most laws on towing.
